GLOBAL CHAPLAINS DAY is being observed on the FIRST SATURDAY AND SUNDAY (WEEKEND) IN FEBRUARY each year.
It is designated as a time to reflect on the work of Chaplains while honoring them for their selfless service.
Global Chaplains Alliance, Inc. hosted the inaugural Global Chaplains Day ceremony on February 1, 2020, in Stone Mountain, Georgia. That first event was a significant success, bringing together chaplains from across the spectrum of service—from agency veterans to Boy Scout Chaplain Aides. You can view highlights from this foundational event and our subsequent weekend celebrations on our Events Page.
When we launched in 2020, Global Chaplains Day was initially observed as a single day of recognition on the first Saturday of February. However, by popular demand, we expanded the celebration in 2023 to encompass the entire first weekend of February. This change now allows for a full Saturday and Sunday of activities, providing a greater opportunity to honor the vital work and selfless service of chaplains worldwide.
Chaplains are found in institutions such as Hospitals, Hospices, Law Enforcement Agencies, Military Units, Fire Agencies, Schools, Prisons, Corporations, The United States Senate, The United States House of Representatives, and in our communities. They play a vital role in supporting, ministering and bringing hope to people in dire situations.
In 2020, Chaplain Monica Dennis-Jones, President of Global Chaplains Alliance, Inc., called for the recognition of a Global Chaplains Day on the first Saturday in February and it was designated as such, at their recognition service held for chaplains on February 1, 2020.
GLOBAL CHAPLAINS WEEKEND is a time to recognize everyone who serve as a Chaplain. Each year, the United States Military has a day of remembrance for four Military chaplains who sacrificed their lives during WWII. The observation of that day does not pay tribute to current Chaplains nor highlight sacrifices made by chaplains who have served and are still serving other institutions.
Today, chaplains continue to provide sacrificial service to the institutions they serve and are so deserving of a set time to show recognition to ALL CHAPLAINS. Hence, the initial creation of GLOBAL CHAPLAINS DAY by Global Chaplains Alliance, Inc. Today it is known as GLOBAL CHAPLAINS WEEKEND.
